3PL LogisticsMomentum 13 – Spotlight on Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, MO. (Apr. 17, 2013) We all know Kansas City is a great hub for transportation and logistics. Today, that fact is highlighted once more, as industry leaders from around the country are in Kansas City for KC SmartPort's second annual industry briefing event featuring the third- party logistics (3PL) industry. "Momentum 13" featured a panel of senior-level executives from the 3PL industry including Wagner Logistics president John Wagner, Jr. In addition to discussing Kansas City's strong labor force, the panel highlighted local expansion opportunities such as the new BNSF intermodal hub.

Wagner and fellow panel members suggested the 500 attendees look beyond cost, and search for partners who understand their company's strategic vision. John touched on three key areas that will impact the industry; potential legislation around driver hours of service, overall capacity limitations and the Food Modernization Act. "Our customers are looking to us for insight as they try to maximize resources in this economy," said Wagner. "We also see the whole issue of supply chain organization and inventory management as a potential concern."

In addition to Wagner, the panel featured leaders from national and local perspectives including moderator Cathy Burrow, global transportation manager, Hallmark Cards; Ed Kitt, global vice president of distribution, Penske Logistics; Todd Snyder, vice president, healthcare, UPS Customer Solutions; Roger Scarbrough, CEO, Scarbrough International and Carl Fowler, senior director for Menlo Worldwide.
